In the 2009-10 financial year, the Fair Work Ombudsman received 804 complaints relating to workplace discrimination
At this time of year many business owners and managers reflect on the previous 11 months on what has worked well and what needs more attention for the following year. Staff performance is normally high on the agenda, but how do you address this?
The festive season can be a time when frustration rises and the workplace can get out of control. Client and workplace Christmas parties along with the consumption of alcohol can damage your employee working relationships. Many business owners and managers get themselves into trouble, and not to mention staff versing other staff members with harsh comments and confrontation.
During 2010 and 2011 the Australian Human Rights Commission received over two thousand complaints on discrimination (2010 - 2011 Annual Report Table, 1 Nov 2011). Fair Work Ombudsman and Work Safe are just waiting for the complaints to come flying in to kick them off for 2012.
